SEATED MASSAGE WORKPLACE STUDIES

There are three credible workplace studies which have been headed up by Tiffany Fields, Ph.D., Director of the Touch Research Institute. TRI is headquartered at the University of Miami's School of Medicine, and includes a distinguished team of researchers representing Duke, Harvard and Maryland. TRI's goal is to offer scientifically sound medical research in the area of skilled touch and massage therapy.

The three workplace studies that TRI has conducted show that a 15 minute chair massage lowers blood pressure and anxiety, decreases job stress and depression, and increases mental alertness and vigor among workers. Following the chair massage workers were able to complete math problems in half the time with fewer errors.

A study performed at 3M by the University of Texas at Austin provided a 15 minute chair massage once per week for nine weeks for 110 employees. The study showed that chair massage enhances ones overall well being by:

· Reducing Stress
· Increasing Quality of Sleep
· Decreasing Depressed Mood Incidences
· Increasing Concentration
· Decreasing Instances of Being Overly Tired or   Lacking Energy
· Decreasing Number of Headaches

Symptoms of illness decreased for the massage group even four weeks after the massages had ended. The post study survey indicated that recipients developed strong, positive opinions about work site massage programs.
